The women were discussing ways to help others and how they might, as a group, go about it.
They came up with the perfect plan to volunteer their time while also doing what they love - quilting.
The ladies now regularly volunteer at Southern Cross Care's sewing group, helping the residents make their patchwork quilts from scratch.
"We help the ladies cut out the squares, arrange them into the design they choose, sew it together and sandwich the wadding, then it's sewn around the edge," volunteer Bev Thompson said.
The women attend the sewing group on the third Monday of the month from 10am to 2pm.
