THREE Central West towns are nominated for a controversial award, but it may not be one they actually want to receive.

The towns - Bathurst, Dubbo and Orange - have all received the dubious honour of being named as round one participants in the Sh*t Town Showdown 2019.

Yes, while many residents might love these towns that they call home, they have been named on viral Facebook page Sh*t Towns of Australia.

The page has a huge following of 145,000 people and the heated debates in the comments sections are enough to curl your grandmother's toes.

This week Lithgow was included as a sh*t town and was described as "cold, grey and stranded in the Blue Mountains, Lithgow is deader than a baby in a dingo's den".

"The disused railway tunnel is filled with glowing lights which are mistakenly believed to be glowworms but are actually the illuminated eyes of Lithgow locals lurking in the shadows and staring at tourists," the review states.

VOTES: On March 5, around 9000 people voted on which was the more sh*t town out of Dubbo and Broken Hill. Dubbo won with 58 per cent of the vote.

Within a day of the post, it had attracted 1900 comments and more than 560 shares.

While Lithgow hasn't been listed among the round one competitors, Bathurst, Dubbo and Orange have been.

Dubbo was the first to be voted on when it competed against Broken Hill in early March, with 58 per cent of people saying Dubbo was the more sh*t town.

Part of the Dubbo review said: "In October 2018 Dubbo made headlines for something other than youth crime or welfare fraud for the first time when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle visited, presumably as some sort of elaborate practical joke".

Orange and Bathurst also competed in March, with 59 per cent of people voting Orange as the more sh*t town.

The review on Orange said it was: "Australia's most un-Googleable place. Orange is an utter waste of space famous for just about everything except oranges, with the only problem being that all of its claims to fame are about as impressive as a pair of soiled undies".

VOTES: On March 7, 5900 people voted on which was the more sh*t town out of Orange and Bathurst. Orange won with 59 per cent of the vote.

Bathurst's review didn't fair much better and said: "Bathurst exists for one reason only: as the location of the Bathurst 1000, otherwise known as Bogan Christmas. This annual orgy of car carnage sees vast hordes of mechanophiles drink-drive from afar afield as Logan, Geelong and Western Sydney for a long weekend of cheering on their favourite international automobile manufacturing conglomerate".

In July Orange and Dubbo were put up against each other as winners of their respective rounds, with Dubbo easily winning with 66 per cent of the votes.

Now, Dubbo remains as the Central West's only hope for a win in the Sh*t Town Showdown 2019.

Good luck Dubbo!

VOTES: A Dubbo v Orange round in July saw 19,000 votes cast and Dubbo win by a healthy 66 per cent. Dubbo now remains the Central West's only hope for a Sh*t Town Showdown 2019 win.
