Exercise Flamingo II was run under the auspices of the Parkes Shire Council Local Emergency Management Committee and was designed to test the emergency services response to an incident at Parkes airport.
Participants included NSW Police Force, Fire & Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance, SES, Rural Fire Service and Parkes Shire Council.
The scenario involved a light plane that landed heavily resulting in a casualty and a number of passengers wandering off from the plane.
The exercise was run during the day whilst the airport was operational and included taking into account the inbound Rex flight landing.
The exercise was a success with all organisations contributing and a number of learning outcomes achieved.
Officer In Charge of Parkes Police, Chief Inspector David Cooper said the exercise again highlights the professionalism of our emergency services responders.
"The people of Parkes can be safe in the knowledge that at times of emergency and need these wonderful first responders will be there," Inspector Cooper said.
"When you consider that some of first responders are volunteers it makes it even more special."
