Parkes Service Club Junior Open: The weekend saw some 250 entries in the Parkes Services Club Junior Open and while the action on court was pretty hot the conditions did indeed proved difficult for players and spectators alike with gusty winds and icy air throughout the three day event.
Locals who played included Poppy Fisher and Ethan Hunt in the 12s, Maddy McCormick, Molly Kennedy and Gabe Goodrick in the 14s and Abbey Kennedy in the 16s. Abbey Kennedy was the best performer finishing fourth in the singles and winning the doubles with Jane Heausler from Barellan.
Thank you to all the amazing mums and dads who baked for the canteen, supplied eggs for the BB, gave their time and worked in the canteen, on the barbeque or monitored courts. The tournament was a great example of community spirit and our city friends were impressed with all the hospitality they received at the tennis centre and from throughout the Shire.
Central West Training Camp: 12 Parkes players received invites for the Central West training camp this weekend at Bathurst involving Tennis Australia National Academy Coaches Jaslyn Hewitt-Shehadie and Dr Matthew Smith. They will be taken through a tennis specific warm-up, skills session, fitness testing and drills sessions over two days. Ben Evans will assist in the coaching while Helen Magill will conduct an upskilling workshop for the coaches in attendance on behalf of Tennis Australia.
Sam Groth Visit: As the most successful PSSA and Todd Woodbridge Cup tennis schools in Central West NSW, Parkes Public and Holy Family schools will both have a special visit from former World No.53 and the fastest server, professional Sam Groth. Sam will arrive on Friday morning and heads straight to Parkes Public for a rotational activity session and a Q&A with the students. After lunch Sam will head to Holy Family for their assembly where Sam will present their team with trophies from last week's Regionals.
