The most exciting though is the results from the CHS State Finals.
Parkes High was named as the second ranked Tennis school in NSW after the girls and boys Open teams finished third and fourth respectively.
The girls team of Hannah and Phoebe Potts, Holly McColl and Maddy McCormick were keen for a solid performance as this was their third stint together at this level. They defeated Mosman High from North Sydney in the opening round and then took on the top seeds Grafton in the semi finals. They were so close to defeating Grafton going down on a games count-back. They then played off for third and fourth against Castle Hill High and thrashed them six sets to zero without playing the two reverse doubles sets to secure the bronze medal and Parkes High's best ever result. This campaign has been a long one with Parkes High making the top 8 schools in NSW for nine of the past ten years. Well Done girls.
Meanwhile the Open boys finals were also held in Nelsons Bay following on from the girls. Jake Magill and Ben Evans have been striving for a top three result for 5 years and unfortunately injuries and overseas commitments have hampered that result. This was Jake and Ben along with Lachy Tassell's final attempt. The recruitment of the next wave of players in Joseph Tanswell and Gabe Goodrick saw them change the team strategies and the older boys sought to be positive mentors for the younger charges. The boys defeated North Sydney in the first round then came up against the top seeds in Sydney Boys High who did not lose a single set for the whole finals. The boys then played off for the bronze against Figtree High and went down in a cliff hanger with the sets locked at 4 all.
Sydney Boys High defeated Westfield Sports High in the boys final while Westfield won the girls.
Thanks to Mr Andrew Pigram from Parkes High for managing the side and providing much encouragement for quite a few years now to make this possible and to Mr David Potts particularly who as a parent has had his four daughters all involved in this team at this level for the past 9years and Parkes Tennis appreciate his and his wife Di's unwavering support to transport the team all over NSW.
Parkes High teams will now look to rebuild for the 2020 campaign.
Working Bees
Parkes Junior Open is on September 7-9 and while the juggernaut Hedley Nicholson has been spending most every day at the courts toiling away getting the courts looking schmick, there are plenty of other minor jobs that need doing. There is a whiteboard inside the clubhouse which has a list. If you are at the courts waiting for your children to finish perhaps you could grab a broom or a rag and help out. This is the big fundraising event for the year with all of the Tournament profits going towards resurfacing the courts and back into maintaining the centre for the Community.
Junior Competition
Junior comp has been in full swing and from all reports running quite smoothly. Please check your match times as they may change from week to week. Round 4 this afternoon.
