This years Show promises to be an amazing mix of traditional and new-age displays and competitions, and is an event not to be missed. Vice President and Publicity Officer, Miss Bridget Lee, said that the committee were expecting a big turn out. "We had great crowds for our main entertainment last year," she said. "We are mindful of the drought and how it will affect numbers, however we hope that farmers use the Parkes Show as a get-together to celebrate the showcase of local agriculture".
While the drought is still affecting people across the Central and Far West, the Parkes Show is the perfect opportunity to get together to raise local spirits, discuss tactics of dealing with the drought and of course to run your eye over the latest machinery and stock on offer. Miss Lee said that while the drought will affect traditional category entries, they are still waiting on final numbers. "As not all entries close until the show days we can not comment on how many entries there will be, however we expect the drought to impact the livestock and produce sections," she said.
One of the longest standing traditions in many agricultural shows is the Showgirl Competition, with Parkes also hosting the Miss Teen competition. Last year saw 2017 Parkes Showgirl, Deanna Freeman, hand over her title to eventual winner Amelia Tanswell. This year the competition has five ladies entered, all with a strong chance of taking out the 2019 Parkes Showgirl.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday for the Showgirl and Teenage Showgirl following the opening of the Show with Geena Purcell, a previous Sydney Royal Showgirl finalist from Wellington, set to open the show. Miss Lee said the entrants would be judged on a long list of credentials. "The Showgirls are judged on the following criteria of personality, confidence, ambitions and goals, general knowledge of local, Australian and International information, rural knowledge, personal presentation, their volunteer and community participation, along with their on-stage interview".
The 2019 Parkes Show runs from Monday, August 26 to Wednesday, August 28 and takes advantage of a half-day holiday in Parkes on Tuesday, August 27. Day tickets or three day passes are available for the Show. For more information including ticket pricing and a full program, visit the Parkes Show website or their Facebook page.
