The strategic multi-media marketing campaign, supported by the NSW Government's Regional Growth - Marketing and Promotion Fund, aimed at attracting major logistics, manufacturing, warehousing and distribution companies to establish operations in Parkes and leverage from the Hub to tap into new markets.
Parkes received Highly Commended in the category, which recognises outstanding local government communications or public relations campaigns.
Parkes Shire Mayor, Cr Ken Keith OAM and Council's Economic and Business Development Manager, Anna Wyllie accepted the award at a gala dinner held in Sydney last week.
"The success of the Hub campaign exceeded all expectations," Anna said.
"While the campaign was only in market for an eight-week period, commencing in February 2018, the benefits continuing to be realised today."
"Since the campaign, we have seen major operators invest millions to set up or expand their operations in Parkes, creating significant opportunities through the creation of jobs and initiating flow-on spending across the region."
Some of the key opportunities that were generated for Parkes as a result of the campaign included the inaugural Inland Rail Conference, the international trade mission led by the NSW Deputy Premier The Hon. John Barilaro MP, the establishment of the State's first Special Activation Precinct (SAP), as well as an investment of nearly $8 million by the NSW Government under the Growing Local Economies Fund (GLEF) to deliver crucial service infrastructure extensions to the Parkes Hub precinct.
The campaign also further strengthened relationships with current operators and generated additional marketing and media opportunities for Parkes, while also connecting Council with new partners and industry representatives.
The RH Dougherty Awards are held annually during Local Government Week.
