Despite the recent cool weather, the Peak Hill Show committee are expecting another terrific turnout at this years Peak Hill Show. PA&H Secretary, Mrs Cathy Goodwin, said that last year they had almost 1000 people through the gate and are hoping for the same this year. "We are hoping for the same number despite current conditions," she said. "Our local schools are also paying for their students entrance fees as part of their drought assistance to their student body".

While the drought is still affecting people in the Central and Far West, Mrs Goodwin said they are doing their best to keep entry numbers up. "Pavilion entries tend to trickle in until the last couple of days and then they come in with a rush," she said. "This year we are not charging an entry fee for pavilion sections such as cooking, arts and crafts, photography, and produce. Our Workshops this year will ensure we have entries in Junior Art, Cheese, Macrame and Floral Art". Livestock numbers also appear to be solid with local farmers continuing to strongly support the show.
Outside of the traditional competitions, there are plenty of chances for people to get involved. Mrs Goodwin said that they have worked hard to create events where everyone can join in. "We have been trying to create events that get people involved," she said. "You don't just come and spend your money on rides, you can have a go at something that doesn't cost you anything, you may win some prizes and have fun at the same time".

After a successful debut of the Peak Hill Dash, the committee have changed things up and this year will see the inaugural running of the Great Train Race. Mrs Goodwin said there will be a workshop held at 11am to design and build your trains with all materials supplied and expert advice available. "I'm afraid I have no engineering ability but I would think a great tip would be to make sure your wheels are secure and your straps tight so the train doesn't fall off," she said. "We will have 'experts' on hand to help with the construction phase thanks to Inland Rail who are sponsoring the race".
Other races that will take place throughout the day include the wood chopping competition and Kevin's Thoroughbred Pig Racing which will consist of five races over the day with half a dozen piglets in each race. It's the perfect chance for people to cheer the piglets on with sweeps and competitions on offer. A late addition to the show will be the Walter Whip and the Flames. Walter will perform his show in the afternoon after hosting workshops teaching youngsters the finer points of whip cracking. The Peak Hill Show will run on Tuesday, August 20 with the main event on Wednesday, August 21.
