The future of Big W stores across Australia came into question earlier this year following expected losses of $80-$100 million during the 2018/19 financial year and the announcement that 30 stores would close in the next three years.
This week the Parkes Champion Post has been contacted by community members who said rumours were circulating that the town's store would be closed down and replaced by a Bunnings Warehouse.
A Big W spokeswoman said while the chain announced last month that three Sydney stores would close, no decisions had been made on any other closures.
"Big W will continue to work with landlords as part of its store network review and we can confirm we have not reached any more agreements with landlords at this time," she said.
"In the event of a store closure announcement, we will do the right thing by our team and the community and aim to give at least three months notice to our team and customers.
"The majority of our store network will remain open."
When asked to comment on the rumour, Bunnings acting general manager property Garry James provided this statement to the Parkes Champion Post.
"Parkes remains an area of interest for us and we would consider opening a store there in the future if the right opportunity became available," he said.
