Well, it's finally here....National Tree Day 2019! We kick off at 10am on Sunday.
This week myself and my partner in crime, Parkes Shire Council Environmental Officer Michael Chambers had a chance to check out this years National Tree Day Site on Akuna Road.
The site is looking fabulous, we have mulch ready to go and a mix of local species to plant to provide more green corridors to this area which is actually within a Fuzzy Box (eucalyptus Conica) woodland community.
Eucalyptus Conica is listed as an Endangered Ecological Community, so a wonderful contribution to the environment, but also planting local species as well!
National Tree Day in Parkes is not possible without the support of Parkes Shire Council and we are pleased to once again be working with Council to bring the day together.
Toyota, who are long time sponsors of National Tree Day, have got us covered with gloves and shirts.
So that we are safe on site, we need to ensure that all volunteers are wearing sturdy, protective shoes and of course, warmly dressed.
The forecast is looking like a top of 17 degrees and with a chance of follow up rain on Monday and Tuesday.
We will be finishing off with a BBQ lunch at around 12pm which is a great chance to get to know other volunteers and, of course, take our yearly National Tree Day photo!
Did you know that this year Landcare Australia are celebrating a 30-year anniversary.
Landcare has played a leading role in changing Australia's approach to sustainable agricultural practices, environmental protection, land and water conservation, biodiversity and landscape restoration whilst connecting communities.
In recognition of the incredible work that has been achieved during the past three decades, Landcare Australia is curating a collection of stories that exemplify the Landcare ethos.
These stories will be used across a number of special publications to showcase and share how Landcare has shaped Australia and why it is integral to our country's future.
If you have a story about a Landcare project or person that has made or is making a difference to the environment and local community, let me know and I would be happy to follow it up.
For more information and to register, go to our website at www.centralwestlachlanlandcare.org, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram @cwllandcare or go directly to the National Tree Day Website at www.planetark.org
Until next week, happy Landcaring.
