Our beloved Dad and Pop was our world and light of our life. Charles Reginald Hawkins was the last surviving member of nine children, three brothers and five sisters, of William and Mary Hawkins.
Beloved husband of Loraine Hawkins, dear father and father in-law of Jane and Andrew, Nigel and Robyn. Adored grandfather of Joe, Michael, Keegan, Sam, Riley, Isabelle and Bradley. Precious great-grandfather of Chayse and Maddi.
Pop was born on May 22, 1929 at Trundle Hospital. He lived in Long Street, Trundle and started school at the age of seven. In 1940 Pop moved to Gillanbine and attended correspondence school, finishing his school days at 13 years old.
Pop stayed on the farm at Ballanbine until it was sold after the war. Hw worked a number of properties over the year saving for his own. He finally achieved his goal in 1960 and purchased Wahgungay.
Nan came into Pop's life when he employed her as a live in carer for his elderly mother. They fell in love, married and had two children Jane and Nigel.
Pop was also a keen shooter and joined the gun club winning many trophies. Pop grew crops and had livestock such as pigs and cattle but mainly sheep.
He also ran a Poll Dorset Stud. With his Poll Dorset sheep, Pop used to win a lot of ribbons showing they around the district.
He was very proud of his and Nan's efforts.
Pop and Nan also had a go at the rabbit business. They had a shed full of rabbits and once they were big enough they would send them off to market.
Pop was a keen gardener and grew most of our veggies for us all to enjoy.
He also loved fruited trees and grew quite a lot of grape vines. He had one poor olive tree that he watered profusely.
When it finally geared fruit, he was so excited to tried them but was disappointed by the bitter taste. The tree was never watered again.
Pop was a hero to us all, claiming trees to rescue pets and also rescue children from horse stranded in the middle of the dam as well as spending half the night looking for lost pet rabbits.
Pop was admired for his love and commitment to his wife and for being a kind and loving father.

BOGAN GATE
CWA news
Parkes, Forbes and Condobolin held their Annual Bridge Day at Bogan Gate on April 7 it is hard to believe this one was the twelfth and we have catered for all of them, a thoroughly enjoyable day for all including players from West Wyalong.
Our President Marion McIntyre laid a wreath on behalf of CWA at our local Anzac Day Dawn Service. There were ten members present at our recent May meeting. The thought was given by Ros Edwards 'Getting what you want is not nearly as important as giving what you have.'
Our International officer Heather Veal gave us some interesting information on our country of study this year, Papua New Guinea's Independence Day in 1975.
Some of our members have started writing their Life stories after attending a workshop recently at the Parkes Library. Marea Buchanan spoke on her recent trip to France with lots of interesting photos.
As this drought is still with us, we have decided to help our local Bogan Gate and Gunningbland farmers and their families by hosting a free BBQ night at the Railway Hotel in Bogan Gate on June 29 at 6.30pm.
We hope many will come to this night as it is very important in these times for us to mix with our friends and all help each other.
