Their store has been a familiar icon in the Central West for almost half a century in retail, however Brian said that the time had come to start the next chapter in their lives. He took the time to pen the following heartfelt and appreciative letter of thanks and support to his wife, family, friends and endless list of Ladybird customers.
"Forty five years is a long retail innings. I was just aged 20 years when, with family encouragement, I created what was then a small enclave dispersing womenswear at the rear of my fathers store which was known as Barry Gunn Menswear.
The female division of the family business grew quickly and the Ladybird reputation for affordable, middle income fashion rose to prominence in the Forbes district.
It was when my wife Margaret joined the Ladybird enterprise, that we entered another growth period. It was a rewarding and exciting retail journey as we opened another outlet in Parkes where again, Ladybird was met with generous patronage.
We enjoyed our partnership with brother Greg and his wife, Maureen, and we are now of the age when one considers other chapters in life.

To all the many wonderful, supportive women and their families who constantly sought our product, our merchandise and our services, we wish to make heartfelt tribute.
To all the Diannes and Nicoles, the Irenes, Kerrys and Vickys, to the Joans, Maryannes, Donnas and Dees. To the Marys, Karens, Helens and Anns, the Margarets, Cathys, Junes and Lyns. To all the Jennys and Maries, Kristys and Kyms, the Sharons and the Jos - thank you all. The list is extensive, the memories golden and we thank you.
For my part, I am indebted to my life partner and wife Margaret, who bought creativeness, wisdom and intelligence to the Ladybird venture. It would seem that not only my work life, but my home life as well, was largely to be spent in the company of good, able women.
My four daughters, Amber, Holly, Sophie and Mia, all served an early "Ladybird apprenticeship" and they continue to impress and inspire my wife and I. We have achieved much together.
And so to matters at hand. Our progressive closing down sale commences now and with huge reductions on hand, we invite everyone to sample our wears one last time. To you all, peace and good will. Thank you".
