Unfortunately for the girls, the number 1 player withdrew the day before the carnival and this meant the girls were forced to move up to the number 1 and 2 positions.
Maddy played three of the top ranked girls in NSW and found the going tough, although never gave up. The girls realised they need to work much harder and play more JT tournaments if they are to compete in these carnivals in the future.
Central West JDS
The Parkes Tennis Club staged its round of the Central West Junior Development Series on the weekend.
The series started when Parkes junior squad members had a training session with Nepean squad and the Far West Academy juniors on Saturday afternoon, followed by dinner at Parkes Services Club.
Sunday saw players travel from Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Dubbo, Bathurst, Blayney, Orange, Warren, Trangie, Nyngan and Parkes.
Parkes players were involved and all enjoyed their day. For some of them it was their first time playing a tournament, while for others they have been playing for some five years. Results next week.
Competitions
Junior and senior competitions continued last week.
The junior comp will play round 3 tomorrow, while senior comp will be into round 4.
In junior comp Jaylen Richardson has withdrawn from the Orange Division so a player with the BYE will fill in each week to allow Adam Smede to continue to play in the competition.
Thanks to the parents who are ensuring they reschedule matches when necessary or find a substitute for their child so all matches can be played. This is important as players travel from Forbes, Trundle, Peak Hill and make the commitment to their tennis comp.
Some results from last week include a close match between Elena Glastonbury and Anna Davis taking on Jordan Mann and Milli Mackay. Elena won her singles against Milli 2/0 with lots of good rallies and deuce games. Jordan then defeated Anna 4/2 and with the doubles 2, all the final score was six games each.
Phoebe Forbes and Liliani Latu are gaining confidence every week and last week proved too consistent for Hannah and Ashley Terry, with a 14/3 scoreline in the Green West Division.
Two great matches in the Green East division last week. The first one was between Thomas Simpson and Sam Riley versing Henry Rice and Bill Mahon. There was plenty of good natured sportsmanship and banter going on in the doubles with all four boys going the extra mile to get all their shots back into play.
The doubles finished 6/3 in Thomas and Sam's favour, giving them a 1 game win overall.
The second match saw a determined effort by Ruby Wilson and Anabelle vanWyk. They were runner-up to Poppy Fisher and Lucy Hall last comp but didn't get to play them so they were out to prove themselves and they did just that.
They had a good game plan going into their singles matches and to their credit, they stuck with it. Ruby defeated Poppy 6/1 while Anabelle scored a 6/3 win against Lucy. The doubles was a close affair with Ruby and Anabelle making it a clean sweep 7/5.
One sided wins in the Yellow division last week to Lachie Unger and Marcus Moss, Mitch Unger and Ethan Hunt, as well as Faith Clarke and Tia Dunn, who were back from their week of tennis at NSW PSSA and this was certainly evident.
In the Red division it was a tie between Daisy Rice and Lachy Orr on eight points. Heath Mulligan is understanding comp tennis more each week, while Josie Watson did some super serves cross court.
\Anna Orr is rallying well and Tyler Zagrovic isn't quite sure about the comp tennis scene at this early stage.
