Brooke Lees from CMOC-Northparkes Mines in Parkes has been named as a finalist in the upcoming NSW Women in Mining Awards.
The Organisational Development Specialist is in the running for an award in the 'Exceptional Young Woman in NSW Mining' category.
Brooke joined Northparkes Mines in 2011, making the move from the Hunter Valley to Parkes to start her career in mining as the Graduate Community and External Relations Advisor.
From there, she moved into human resources where she worked in recruitment and developing the company's employee pipeline.
In early 2017, Brooke was chosen for a project role in CMOC Group Headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona USA, where she was the Communications Specialist. She implemented all communications for the start-up company. During the four-month project role, the office grew from 15 people to more than 90.
Brooke returned to Northparkes Mines with the benefit of her newfound experience and knowledge of CMOC.
Earlier this year, she was promoted to her current role.
"I am responsible for delivering the learning and organisational development strategy across site," Brooke said.
During her time at Northparkes Mines, Brooke has managed a number of programs to better connect the community with the mine, such as the highly successful Northparkes Open Day in 2015, along with 2018's Make Your Mark Campaign, which showcased all the benefits of a career in mining.
Brooke also designed, implemented and managed the Northparkes Volunteer Leave Program - the first of its kind that allowed employees to take leave to volunteer with local organisations throughout the Central West.
The program won the NSW Minerals Council Environment and Community Excellence Award in 2014, with more than 1140 hours volunteered to more than 30 community projects.
"The program was a success because of the engagement with employees and the ownership they took of helping our local community," Brooke said.
All winners will be announced at a dinner and ceremony at NSW Parliament House on Thursday, May 30.
"Congratulations Brooke on this outstanding achievement. We are extremely proud of you and we wish you all the best," Northparkes Mines Managing Director Hubert Lehman said.
