Actually she's very far from it - that's why she plays cricket, tennis, hockey, indoor hockey, netball and touch football, she swims, and somehow squeezes in athletics and a bit of cross country running.

But she doesn't only take part in these sports, she also excels at them.

Currently the Year 7 Parkes High School student is a member of Orange's division two State Age Netball Team, who will compete in the July school holidays.

She's also part of Orange's State Age Hockey Team, who will compete a week after the netball titles in July.

This summer marked Ellen's first season of cricket and proved she's lethal with bat and ball.

She ended 2018-19 claiming the most runs, the most wickets and the best and fairest in her team the under 12s Renegades, and won Parkes Junior Cricket Association's under 12s Overall Best and Fairest trophy.

Ellen was then selected to join the Western Region Girls Academy of Cricket, following a trial at Kinross Wolaroi School in Orange on April 14.

"I just like hitting the ball," said Ellen, whose curiosity led her to try the sport.

"Netball is my favourite because I like the team spirit and playing together as a team, and the speed.

"[I just like to have a go] and I don't like sitting at home."

Ellen also finished the swimming season as the Parkes Sharks Swimming Club's 12 years girls champion, following a summer of five morning training sessions a week and defending her title from the previous year.

Ellen spends most of her afternoons after school and on weekends away training and competing, mainly in Orange and Sydney.

On average, Ellen and her parents TeAnau and James Dolbel travel more than 1000 kilometres a week.

"When school returns, we'll be travelling to Orange five days a week for 10 weeks," TeAnau said.

"It's going to be 10 weeks of chaos coming up for us and hopefully after that it will settle down a little."

It's quite the juggling act and Ellen appreciates all what her parents do for her.

"It makes me feel loved," she said.

Ellen had a very big 2018, culminating in regional, state and national representation, an Australian school title and national gold medal.

Her hard work and dedication to train and excel at every sport she plays earned Ellen a special commendation in the Junior Sportsperson of the Year category at the 2018 Parkes Shire Sport Awards, presented during this year's Australia Day official ceremony.

As a Year 6 student at Parkes Public School, Ellen attended the Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) tennis trials, where she ranked number one for Lachlan and number one female in the PSSA Western Tennis Team that attended the NSW carnival in Albury.

In tennis, Ellen also participates in junior tournaments and the Junior Development Series where she was ranked in the top eight for 2018.

She was Parkes Public's 12-year-old champion, the Senior Girls Swimming Champion and winner of the Birch Cup (for the second year in a row), the fastest 50m freestyle swimmer in the school for females and also achieved the fastest time in the school overall. Ellen represented at Lachlan and Western Region carnivals for all six available events.

Ellen was Parkes Public's cross country 12-year-old and Senior Girls Champion in 2018, progressing to Lachlan where she qualified first as the senior girl at the Western trials.

She broke Lachlan and Western shot put records, qualifying her for the state carnival at Homebush where she equalled her personal best distance.

Ellen travels to Eugowra for expert coaching in shot put and discus, and is considering taking up javelin.

Her goal keeping skills earned her PSSA Western girls hockey selection for a second year, during which she was also awarded the Western Medal.

The school state carnival in Sydney saw her selected for the NSW Hockey Team as the team's only goal keeper.

The national titles were held in Newcastle where Ellen's NSW team finished in first place, winning gold.

She has been a member of Parkes Hockey where she's competed at under 15s and under 13s indoor hockey championships at the Central Coast and Orange respectively. She was also selected as a shadow goal keeper for NSW in under 13s Indoor.

Ellen travels to Orange weekly to play in their under 16s mixed indoor competition to gain experience and further develop her skills, and participates in the Western Region Centre of Development program as a goal keeper.

Ellen was selected from more than 300 girls who played in the PSSA knockout competition as part of Western Region netball. She was shortlisted to the top 20 to compete for one of 10 places for the team and was successful as goal attack, and played at Homebush for a week.

"Making the Western netball team last year was a big highlight for Ellen," TeAnau said.

"It was her goal to make that team, she wanted to be among the first Parkes girls to do that."

Ellen was the captain of the Parkes Public School netball team that qualified first at the Netball School Cup, advancing to the regional finals in Orange.

Ellen travels to Orange twice a week to play and train under highly qualified netball coaches.

Ellen was also the captain of the Parkes Public cricket team that participated in the PSSA knockout which advanced to the Western Region finals and were runners-up. Ellen was selected in the Western cricket team and headed to Newcastle late last year where she was the opening batsman for her team.

And Ellen was a member of the PSSA Lachlan girls touch football team and the Parkes Public touch team, who were Western Region semi-finalists in 2018. But she's had to drop the sport this year to fit everything else in.

The family has thought about moving to Orange to allow Ellen better and more frequent access to sporting facilities.

But for now they're happy to continue calling Parkes home.

"Ellen has a really good school here, there are heaps of opportunities for her at Parkes High School," TeAnau said.

"She's been able to play in the opens netball, basketball and cricket, whereas if she was in a bigger area she'd probably have hundreds of kids to compete against for selection."
