The project, co-funded by Parkes Shire Council and the NSW Government's Stronger Country Community Fund, is part of Stage 2 of the Parkes Active Movement Strategy which aims to encourage residents to make healthy lifestyle choices.
“Projects like what we see here at Parkes today really do breathe new life into regional parts of the state, and I can definitely see this pathway making a really positive difference to life in the community,” NSW Deputy Premier John Barilaro said when opening the pathway.

The 1.3 kilometre stretch forms part of a network of shared pathways that will eventually form a loop around Northparkes, Pioneer and Spicer Ovals and Holy Family School.
Parkes Shire councillor George Pratt thanked the NSW Government for assisting council to deliver the project.
"Council is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of the Parkes Shire, and we do this by ensuring we deliver a mix of shared pathways, cycling routes, outdoor fitness equipment and sporting facilitates for our community to utilise and enjoy at no cost."
Parkes Shire Council's Director Works and Services Ben Howard said staff implemented a number of innovations to improve efficiencies, including trialling a new concrete canvas product."
"The flexible, concrete impregnated fabric hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, water proof and fire-resistant concrete layer," he said.
"By using this particular product, we have reduced costs, construction times, environmental impact, and water usage."
Mr Barilaro and Nationals candidate for the state seat of Orange Kate Hazelton joined members of the community to try-out the nearly completed pathway on February 14.
“This brand new path will be enjoyed by individuals and their families as part of the Parkes Council’s goal for locals to engage in a more active lifestyle,” Ms Hazelton said.
