Not only did the Parkes Elvis Festival inject a huge boost into the local economy, it also helped raise the bank balance of a very important local charity, Can Assist.
The Parkes Leagues Club placed donation tins around the club during the Elvis Festival and have donated the collected funds to the charity.
Manager Greg Hornby said the club raised $4888.25 through gold coin donations.
“We thought while we had a captive audience, we’d put a tin at the sign in desk and make the most of it for such a good cause,” he said.
Pat Bailey said Can Assist is extremely grateful to the Leagues Club for the donation.
“The money will go to cancer patients to help with travel, accommodation and medication, and all donations stay local,” she said.
“At present Can Assist is helping 100 people in the Parkes Shire and has paid out more than $100,000 in the last 12 months.”
