The McGrath Foundation fundraiser will be held at Northparkes Oval on Saturday with a ladies 20/20 match between the Badgerettes and the Northparkes Crusherettes at 2pm.

A men’s exhibition 20/20 match will then follow at 5.30pm.

But this match isn’t any ordinary competition match, with the Northparkes Crushers – a Radiola Cup side from the local competition – and Coolabah Cup side the Honey Badgers hitting the pitch.

The idea to host a Pink Stumps Day was initiated by Malcolm Bruce, Jake Foran and Dylan Morgan from Northparkes Mines.

McGrath Foundation fundraising games have been held in Parkes before, but have only been low-key, informal matches.

This year Malcolm said they’d love to get the community more involved and put on proper show for spectators – all while sending out that important message of support for those in the local community and across the country that have experienced or been impacted by breast cancer.

“It’s got to be a proper match if you want people to come out and support it,” Malcolm said.

“We also want people to know that the Northparkes Crushers [and other teams] aren’t just a cricket team – we’re a family team, we’re about sportsmanship, we’re more than just cricket and beers,” Dylan added.

Their aim is to raise as much funds for the McGrath Foundation as they can, to help to place more McGrath Breast Cancer Nurses in communities across Australia.

Boosting women’s cricket in town was also a motive to hold the fundraiser that included a women’s match.

“To my knowledge there’s never been a women’s cricket competition in Parkes,” Dylan said.

Malcolm said they’d love to see a women’s competition evolve in the future and they’re aiming for the Pink Stumps Day to become an annual event and fundraiser.

PDCA secretary Luke Nash is hoping that the women's match could lead to an exciting future for women's cricket in Parkes.

“On the back of the recent success of the Spacecats and the establishment of the ladies AFL team, we are hoping that ladies cricket could evolve here in Parkes over the next year or two and is a pathway that the association is committed towards,” he said.

“There isn't that many opportunities for ladies cricket in country areas of NSW and we hope that continued support and exposure can only benefit it more and lead to increased participation.”

PDCA is inviting the community to head down to Northparkes Oval this Saturday to help support a great cause, while enjoying the cricket on display.

A barbecue will be running, thanks to the donation of Buttabeef Butchery and there will be a raffle, which has been sponsored by Rach Lynch, Jo Hanstock and Ash McGrath.

Local businesses and businesspeople have also hopped on board with sponsorship, including Northparkes Mines and Esther Bruce.
