And unfortunately another heatwave is on its way.
The recent heatwave began on January 13 with 41.2 degrees, followed by 40.1 degrees on January 14 and 43.7 on January 15.
But last Wednesday and Thursday, January 16 and 17 were by far Parkes’ hottest days – and its hottest in 21 years, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The hottest January day record – set on January 13, 2017 at 44.1 degrees – was first broken on Wednesday by 0.1 of a degree, being 44.2.
The mercury then soared to 44.5 degrees on Thursday, this temperature becoming the new record.
January 18 was recorded at 43.2 degrees.

So far Parkes residents have encountered eight days in total of above 40 degree temperatures this January, three more days than both January 2018 and a hot January 2017.
And it’s not ending there.
Weatherzone predicts this Friday, January 25 and Sunday, January 27 will reach 42 degrees, while Australia Day, January 26 is expected to peak at 44.
There’s only 10 per cent chance of rain this Friday, but Saturday and Sunday may bring better chances of 1-5mm at 50 per cent and 60 per cent respectively.
