IT may be called the Parkes Elvis Festival, but retro and vintage fashion is just as important during the five-day event, Miss Chevy Bel says.

Ash Barnes uses her alter ego when working at an event like this and she is among the many who are in loved with retro fashion.

The first-time festivalgoer said there were a few big differences when comparing fashion then to now.

Retro fashion is so versatile that anyone can “make it their own” with swing skirts, petticoats, big bangles, beads, bright handbags, floral hair clips, headbands and loud prints.

“The essentials are circle skirts, headbands, petticoats and you can build from that,” Ms Barnes said.

“Retro fashion is all about having fun, having your bright stuff, out and making it your own.

“Vintage fashion is all about being yourself, being comfortable, being happy and making it your style.

“Everyone’s got their own different style when it comes to vintage fashion and that’s what’s exciting to see that everyone can make it there’s.

“It suits a lot more people that current fashions.”

For many people, like Ms Barnes, retro is a “whole lifestyle” and it’s not just festivals like this one that she dresses in style.

“I love it, I love anything vintage and retro,” she said.

On her first time at the Parkes Elvis Festival, Ms Barnes said she was “absolutely loving it”.

“I’ve been dreaming about this since I was a kid,” she said.

“It’s perfect, the fact that Elvis is everywhere.

“I have almost every record that Elvis made and lots of newspaper clippings.”
