These were the words by local farmer John Carr, when he decided to organise a charity farmers fundraising day at the Parkes Bowling and Sports Club on November 4.
John organised the day to raise money for local farmers hit hard by the devastating drought.
He spent many hours and weeks drumming up sponsorship and pledging for donations for this great cause, to raise money to help those in need.
As we all know the drought affects everyone, whether it be farmers, families or businesses, it has an effect.
Wen times are tough mental health also becomes an issue.
The day saw two full greens of bowlers as well as two fields of Futsal players playing soccer all afternoon.
There were raffles as well as a silent auction on the day.
The total raised was $7,290. This money was donated to Frances Scurfield who was representing St Vincent dePaul and will be distributed evenly to local farmers who are in need.
It was suggested the money raised may be distributed as $200 vouchers to provide assistance for the farming community at Christmas.
John’s efforts and thoughtfulness to organise the day was greatly appreciated.
A big thank you to the business people who donated and to all who assisted on the day.
Particular thanks went o the ladies bowls president Merilyn, Rhona and Liz and all of the ladies who helped, Gwenda, Colin and Greg for cooking and all everyone involved in the silent auction.
Thanks you to the Parkes Bowling Club, Paul, Henry and Christine, Gary McPhee, John Watson, John Davies and the greenkeepers.
Thanks also to the businesses which donated the food for lunch, Coles, Woolworths, Butta Beef Butchery, Dwyer’s Butchery, French Baker and the Dish Cafe.
Finally, thank you to everyone who attended to make the day the success it was.
Anyone in need of assistance should contact the St Vincent DePaul in Parkes.
