Mr Ken Mulligan, Managing Director of YWAM Medical Ships was acknowledged for his service in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Mr Mulligan was awarded with an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE).
He received the award in acknowledgement for his services to the community and rural healthcare through YWAM Medical Ships.
Mr Mulligan along with his wife Robyn, originally from Peak Hill, have been serving as a full-time volunteers with YWAM for over 30 years.
YWAM Medical Ships Managing Director, Mr Ken Mulligan, said that the esteemed award is a wonderful acknowledgement that helps affirm and strengthen YWAM’s commitment to PNG.
“We receive this honour on behalf of so many people who have worked tirelessly and voluntarily for the people of Papua New Guinea,” Mr Mulligan said.
“I am so grateful to our donors, hard-working volunteers, and the many supporters and friends who have helped make this possible.”
The YWAM training and medical ship, MV YWAM PNG, is currently on deployment in Central Province, PNG.
Over 165,000 patients have received healthcare and training since the YWAM Medical Ships began its operations in 2010.
One of YWAM Medical Ships more recent patients was a young mother named Ruth with an advanced case of Tuberculosis.
“While it is a privilege to receive an OBE, my heart continues to go out to individuals who are suffering unnecessarily,” Mr Mulligan said.
“Ruth's story reminds us again why we do what we do and we are more determined then ever to continue.”
YWAM Medical Ships Public Relations Manager, Mrs Anna Scott, said that Ken and Robyn’s vision, passion and leadership have made a tremendous impact on many lives.
“We are just so proud that Ken has been acknowledged in such an honourable way for his many years of service and commitment,” she said.
