Thirteen-year-old Hannah Dun now makes two buskers who will represent Parkes at the Australian National Busking Championships (ANBC) Grand Finals in Cooma on November 4.
The Year 7 Parkes High School student won the secondary section at the regional final in Gundagai on October 27, and also took third in the People’s Choice Award.
This follows her second placing in the same age group and a first in the People’s Choice Award at the Peak Hill finals in September.
But since only first place-getters in just the three age groups qualified for the next level, Hannah just missed out in securing a spot in Cooma. Until now.
“Qualifying for the second time for the grand final of the ANBC feels great,” she said, after making her debut in the national competition last year.
“I will always be thankful to the organisers for supporting, not just me but other young, emerging talents from regional areas.”
Hannah beat 17 other buskers to claim the People’s Choice Award in Peak Hill and was up against 48 buskers in Gundagai.
“Winning a People’s Choice Award in Peak Hill and Gundagai was an incredible feeling,” she said.
“I’m so thankful to both communities for their support.”
Now that Hannah’s gone up an age group, she admitted the competition is tough.
“I’m the youngest in my category, most of them are very talented and already have a career in music,” she said.
“So I will focus on learning from them.”
She also has a few ideas up her sleeve on how to approach this year’s grand final.
“I will sing, play my keyboard, tell a story and dance at the same time. Hey, let’s see how it goes,” Hannah said.
