Attendance was covered by Narromine, Peak Hill, Eugowra, and Parkes.
Apologies were received from Trangie, Forbes and Trundle.
Attendees were treated to keynote speaker John McLennan.
John is a member and volunteer and the NSW Divisional Advisory Board Deputy Chairman.
As a now-retired lawyer John has represented Red Cross at a local, divisional and international level.
He is the recipient of many Red Cross awards including the Honorary Life Membership award – the highest award of Red Cross.
John has been a volunteer with Red Cross for 20 years.
Topics covered at the conference included the Let’s Talk Drought program, which has been operating into five years to assist and support the social isolation of farming families living in drought affected areas across NSW.
The Help Aussie Farmer’s in Drought appeal launched nationally throughout August by Red Cross raised $10.9 million for farmers to put a one-off cash grant in their pockets for everyday essentials.
We work closely with our CWA partners and the Department of Primary Industries to identify areas of drought.
The application form can be found on the CWA website.
Other guest speakers included Albert Penson – a Telecross volunteer.
Albert has been making five phone calls daily to lonely people for the last 10 years.
Also retired, Albert is a valuable humanitarian committed to helping those less fortunate and states he feels so rewarded by his involvement in the program.
