More than 180 volunteers along with dozens of coordinators and skilled tradies will begin setting up their base camp at the Forbes Showground on Wednesday afternoon.

Kim Lowe of K and H Designs, who helped to bring the Mega Farm Rescue to Forbes said they will be helping out 14 farms in the district, which is one of the biggest farm rescues in the country.

“I’m really proud it has gotten to this point,” Ms Lowe said.

The aim of the Mega Farm Rescue is to connect a range of volunteers with jobs that need doing on farms such as fencing, mechanical work and a range of jobs that just get put off.

Rural Aid CEO, Charles Alder, said the Mega Farm Rescue team are pretty pumped to get out to Forbes and start working.

“I think it’s the biggest one we have ever done,” Mr Alder said.

For the remainder of this week, the volunteers and members of the Mega Farm Rescue will be setting up marquees and organising into 14 teams.

Ms Lowe said they would head out to their assigned farms to begin work from Monday, October 15.

The volunteers’ days will be begin at 6:30am for breakfast before they head off to their assigned farms at 8am. From there, they will help out with jobs on the farm until 4pm or 5pm, depending on needs.

Ms Lowe said they have had plenty of donations to help around the farms and whatever they don’t have will be purchased from around town.

On Wednesday, October 17 volunteers will be urged to hit the town for dinner after their work on the farm.

Ms Lowe said she would like to thank the students and staff of Forbes High School for preparing packed lunches for the volunteers on Wednesday.

Ms Lowe said she would also like to thank Jan Facey from the Showgrounds for being exceptionally generous in allowing the volunteers to be based there.

The Mega Farm Rescue ends with the volunteers packing up on Saturday, October 20.
