During the NSW Masters Women’s Hockey Championships held in Coffs Harbour in August, Parkes woman Fran Dixon reached a great achievement in her life.

It’s also quite an achievement for Parkes Hockey.
Fran was presented with her Maroon jersey by Hockey NSW during the opening ceremony for still playing in her 70th year.
She has become the first Parkes woman to achieve the award which was witnessed by her husband Graham and three daughters Tracy, Deanna and Kylie, and many Parkes players. Fran is a life member of Parkes Hockey.
This is Fran’s third milestone award – her first being in 1999 at Cooma when she was given a Gold jumper, which was presented to players the year after their 50th year.
Her second award was in 2009 at Wagga, where she was presented with her Green jersey for 60 years and still playing.
Fran said 2018 was a very proud year for her, as it was the third in a row she had the honour of playing with her three daughters.
And to cap off a great weekend, her side won the over 35s division 5 going through undefeated. Another pleasing aspect of the weekend is that Fran coached some of the younger players as juniors.
Since Women’s Veterans began in 1985, Fran has seen many changes over the years. She said the size of the championships has grown immensely and in 2012 the name changed to Women’s Masters.
Cheryl Uptin and Ally Eslick were also presented jumpers at the titles in recognition of playing hockey in their 50th year.
