The town welcomed 12 international Consul Generals and government officials – representing Austria, Canada, China, China, Czech Republic, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia.
The delegates visited the Parkes National Logistics Hub on September 10, which coincided with Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW John Barilaro unveiling a landmark Investment Attraction Package to attract more businesses and investments to regional NSW.
As part of the trip, the delegates also learnt about why the Central West is the epicentre of a “tech metal” boom, attended the 2019 Parkes Elvis Festival launch donning Elvis wigs and sunnies, and were treated to an exclusive tour inside the CSIRO Parkes Radio Telescope.
“The trade mission was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the opportunities available here in Parkes, build international connections, foster relationships, and identify partnering opportunities,” Deputy Mayor Barbara Newton said.
“Thank you to the NSW Government for choosing Parkes to announce the new regional Investment Attraction Package, which is exciting not only for our region, but all of regional NSW.
“Council has been busy preparing our region for this type of economic growth – as we work to secure the potential of the Parkes National Logistics Hub as the nation’s first Special Activation Precinct.”
