Robyn, from West Wyalong, is a reformed addict who tells a very candid story about her years of living with six addictions which controlled her life for 37 years.
The 53-year-old not only kicked a 15 year ice habit, she also overcame addictions to marijuana, antidepressants, alcohol, cigarettes and gambling.
Now a motivational speaker, Robyn is a woman on a mission to share her personal journey and reach as many people as she can.
She is passionate about educating communities on the dangers of the drug ice and is doing all she can to support anyone currently in addiction.
Robyn travels around the region, mostly at her own expense, and knows from personal experience the depth of the ice epidemic in the Central West.
She knows first hand that Parkes and Forbes are rampant with drugs like ice and heroin.
Robyn believes that people like herself with lived experience are best equipped to talk to and educate people, especially our youth - and it needs to start early in our schools.
She also feels drug use should be treated as a mental illness not as a crime
With an honest and raw approach, Robyn discusses many aspects of drug use, focussing particularly on ice and it’s sources, effects and warning signs.
She also explains the SMART Recovery program that saved her life.
Parkes Rotary Club welcomed Robyn as guest speaker at their August 27 meeting.
Rotarian Cliff Cowell said she is an exceptional speaker.
“I feel that it was one of the best quiet, yet passionate presentations I have heard in the 35 years I have been in Rotary,” he said.
