Lifestyle Coordinator Maree Hando said the idea came about while residents were discussing the current conditions one morning.
“We were reminiscing about the droughts they’ve been through when they were younger and living on farms, and how they coped with the stress and the strain at the time,” Maree said.
“We were talking about different ways we might be able to help and we came up with the idea to gather non-perishable items to donate to farming families.”
Five washing baskets of items were collected from residents, families, volunteers and staff.
“We weren’t sure about the best way to get the items to the families who need them the most,” Maree said.
“So we enlisted the help of the Parkes Rotary Club and they very happy to take it all off our hands and organise to get it to the families who need it most.”
Parkes Rotary Club President Jenny Jewell said the club is more than happy to help.
“Parkes Rotary Club are proud to receive these wonderful gifts of non-perishable goods to be give to the needy in time of drought,” Jenny said.
Staff, residents and Parkes Rotary Club members gathered to have their photo taken before the items were handed over for distribution.
