Aces Division: Sienna Hunt served very well in her match against Jordy Mann last week scoring a 6/2 win while Adam Smede was super excited when he scored a close 3/2 win over Katie Forbes.
Federers Division: Ruby Coote and Phoebe Forbes played a good match with Ruby just winning on the whistle 3/2. Mitchell Boggs and Issy Lennox both did well with their serving and scoring with the help of Koby last week. Mitch got the win 4/3. Patrick McPherson showed his experience of already having played comp tennis when he took on Jack Greenland. Jack will be working hard on his serving and will continue to gain some confidence.
Hewitts Division: Anna Davis was all ready to play but Kane Dickerson didn’t show which was disappointing. Hopefully Kane remembers to come today. Knox Lamont had a grin as big as a watermelon when he scored his first comp win for some time last week when he played Declan Quade. Dec couldn’t get his serve working and became a little frustrated while Knox’ was working a treat. The final score was 3/0.
Nadals Division: Riley Jones was menacing when he played Liliani Latu. Lil was trying her best but Riley was getting all her shots back and making her do all the running. Jacques van Wyk and Tarlei Glastonbury had a great match with plenty of rallies. Tarlei will be ready for their match next time. Jacques scored a 5/1 win.
Smashes Division: Poppy Fisher acknowledged the benefit of playing tennis all day last Sunday in the JDS event helping her development and as such enabling her to improve her performance and score her first win playing with green balls. She scored a close 5/3 win against Pat Simpson. Coen Glastonbury will be looking towards a stint in the singles and doubles comp next term if he keeps up this early term three comp form. He hit too many rally balls for Mitch Wirth last week.
Volleys Divsion: Ruby Wilson and Sam Rivett played a ripper match with plenty of rallies. They finished in a well deserved five all draw. Hayden Arndell saw the benefit of playing practise matches in the JDS last Sunday when he took to the court and blitzed Tim Nyugen 8/0. Hayden was hitting the ball much stronger and when he improves his serving he will be ready for the doubles comp.
Singles, Doubles Division: A hard fought match took place on courts 11 and 12 last week when Charlie Strudwick and Cody Morgan took on the defending champs Nia Boggs and Mitchell Arndell. Nia played Cody in singles. Nia is hitting the ball with more purpose after playing a few of the JDS events and Cody is moving around the court with heightened enthusiasm. Nia just won their encounter 6/4. Charlie then took on Mitchell and Mitch was feeling confident after his good results at the JDS. Charlie is a seasoned campaigner though and hit the ball too well for Mitch with a 6/2 result. It was down to the doubles and Nia and Mitch just snuck over the line 6/4 to take a two sets to one win. In Lily McCormick’s absence, one Molly Kennedy filled in. Molly partnered with Tyson Lennox and they defeated Faith Clarke and Tia Dunn 6/2 but it was Tia Dunn who caused an upset win when she out rallied Tyson in a long singles set 6/4. In the match of the round it was a battle between the Unger boys and Marcus Moss. Nick Unger filled in for Xander Macgregor to partner little brother Lachie and they played Mitch Unger and Marcus. Meanwhile eldest brother Tom was seen perched in the umpires chair. All was in order though as expected with these beaut boys all enjoying their matches. It was Lachie and Nick Unger who prevailed three sets to zero.
ANZHotshots: Week four this week of the term three HotShots program and serving is the key. It is such a difficult task for the juniors at all stages learning to serve the ball into play whether it is the traditional over arm serve or even the drop and hit underarm serve to start a rally. Racquet control and definitely ball tossing is the big challenge but all the juniors have been working hard at improving their skills.
Woodbridge Cup: Schools in the Western region are gearing up for the 2018 Todd Woodbridge Cup. Notes have gone out to every primary school in both the Parkes and Forbes Shires and some schools have already started training. This competition is years three and four only and teams will be made up of four girls and four boys. Each school may enter a maximum of three teams. Some of the smaller schools don’t have full teams so they will join together with other schools so those students don’t miss out. Prior tennis experience is not needed as this competition uses red balls and is on a modified court.
Winners from one Public, one Catholic and one Independent School will progress to the Regional Finals to be played at Canowindra on Friday, November 2. The State Finals which included Parkes Public and Holy Family school teams last year will be at Homebush on Monday, November 19.
