The introduction of ‘O Day’ on Thursday was a major feature of the week. This day was introduced as a way to celebrate public education, allowing our staff and students to engage in a whole day of activities centred around mindfulness and connectivity between staff and students.
Staff and students worked together, alongside a number of community organisations in raising their profile and connectivity as community members. The week also culminated in an assembly which celebrated the induction of over thirty students as anti-bullying ambassadors.
The assembly provided the public launch of an important system that embodies student-led change and responsibility to each other. With a strong message of “looking out for each other”, the theme drew on the importance of peer support, and of strong conviction when making a united stand on a keynote issue.
The assembly was also an important acknowledgement to the important role students play as proactive, community people with a strong conviction to change, affirmative action and care of their fellow peers.
The school was privileged to have Ms Stacey Kelly from Northparkes Mines, address the audience about the importance of supporting an anti-bullying position across a variety of situations, and drew on her vast experiences to send a powerful community based message about bullying and the need to remove it from everyday life.
The senior executive of the school also visited a number of classrooms to witness firsthand the excellent work being done by our students in a variety of lessons.
