The experienced pairing of John Green and Peter Dixon were expected to go a long way in this competition.
However, they failed to fire in their quarter-final, going down 4 and 2 to Robert Cheney and David Stevenson, who are the new favourites.
Another pairing who were in good form also failed to deliver.
Lindsay Elliott and Wayne Tucker could not put it together in their match against Phil Barnard and Denis Howard, losing 5 and 4.
In the previous round, Elliott and Tucker had defeated Peter Magill and Troy Thomson, but could not replicate that form against the defending champions.
Paul Lewin and Joe van Opynen had a much harder time of it against Jake Hodge and Cody Hando.
Lewin and van Opynen held on to win their quarter-final 2 and 1.
