On a normal day Tullamore boasts a tiny population of just 424, or approximately 680 including the wider community. However the population is set to triple with the incoming flux of exhibitors and show-goers when the 95th Tullamore Annual Show kicks off this weekend.

The friendly, country town surrounded by widespread farmland, has deep Indigenous and Irish roots and strongly supports it’s annual events including the show and the Irish Music Festival.
It has been 100 years since the Tullamore PA&H Association Inc. held their first agricultural show in 1918. While the show closed down during World War II, it reopened in 1949 and has been showcasing the sturdy stock, fine crafts and delicious food of the region since. This year on August 10 and 11, the society will be celebrating the 95th annual Tullamore Show and have been busy preparing for another magnificent show.
In his final year as Tullamore PA&H President, Tom McMahon, said that despite the dry season taking it’s toll, the show will continue to thrive and be a great success for farmers and rural people as they come together. He also thanked his fellow committee members and the support of the local community, sponsors and organisations whose contributions were greatly appreciated.
Show secretary Melissa Hughes, said there was a high level of entries in the cattle and horse competitions along with the always popular pavilion exhibits. “It will certainly be a fun but competitive day. There are lots of chances for people to enter, for both younger and older generations,” she said.
Other chances to be involved at the show and compete include the Young Farmers Challenge which is always well supported and features some great challenges and prize money. The speed shearing competition will also be running with the chance for bragging rights, while the Junior Showgirl and Master Stockmen will once again take place.
A major highlight for the crowd will again be the Demolition Derby which is a smashing event with prizes for first and second, along with the best presented car. Organiser Troy Carey, is expecting around 15 entries this year and said there will be some fierce competition. “The derby started five years ago to lift crowd numbers and allows them to see some pretty brutal action. We also raffle off a car each year for a local cause so it’s great for the whole community,” he said.
Trades and exhibitors are booked to the max with lots on offer to interest and excite all family members. You will be able to come and chat with the Clean Teq and Plantina Mine crews, browse the many shops stalls or maybe even upgrade your car with the Beco Lighting stand.
The ever popular sideshow alley will of course be a hive of activity with plenty of rides, games and test of skill to suit all ages. So come down, enjoy some pizza or a Dagwood dog, and have a great day out at this years Tullamore Show.
