This year’s National Tree Day event will be held at 10am at Akuna Road, off Eugowra Road adjacent to Parkes’ new Advanced Water Recycling Facility.
The event will conclude around midday with a BBQ lunch provided for participants.
“National Tree Day is one of the best ways to connect in nature with our community,” said Michael Chambers, Parkes Shire Council's Environmental and Sustainability Coordinator.
“It’s also a chance to do our bit for our local environment and experience the many benefits of spending time outdoors.”
This year’s planting will connect remnant patches of vegetation in the area and provide a habitat link to Parkes’ 2015 National Tree Day site which is located nearby.
“It’s the perfect opportunity for residents who participated in our 2015 event to see the progress of these plantings while adding to revegetation efforts in the area,” Mr Chambers said.
Last year over 250,000 people participated in National Tree Day, planting more than 920,000 plants at around 3,200 sites.
This brings the initiative’s overall tally of trees planted to almost 24.5 million over 22 years.
The theme for 2018 – Connect In Nature – looks at the many ways in which technology can enhance time outdoors and enrich our appreciation for the natural world.
