Parkes Shire Mayor, Cr Ken Keith OAM said Parkes will be a triple threat at the awards ceremony to be held in Orange on July 28.
“Parkes Elvis Festival is nominated in the Festival and Events Category, Council’s brand campaigns in the Destination Marketing Category and the Parkes Visitor Information Centre in the Visitor Services category,” the Mayor said.
The Regional Tourism Awards are held annually to acknowledge excellence in tourism in regional NSW.
In 2018, the regional tourism awards will be held in the three NSW Destination Networks of Riverina Murray, North Coast and Country and Outback.
Parkes forms part of the Country & Outback Destination Network, which is the largest, covering from Broken Hill out west, through to Oberon and all the way up to the Queensland border.
The Regional Tourism Awards provide tourism organisations and individuals the opportunity to gain an insight into their industry, their business, achieve recognition for their success and promote tourism within their region.
The Mayor said it is great to see Council’s efforts in growing the visitor economy of the region recognised by industry peers.
“Tourism is a major driver for the economy in the Parkes Shire valued at over $58 million dollars annually,” he said.
“Parkes Shire is well known for its ability to stage major festivals and events with many regions looking to emulate the success of the Parkes Elvis Festival which attracts 25,000 visitors annually.
“The Parkes Destination Brand has cemented it status as a trusted, well known identity and has set the foundations for creative and innovative marketing campaigns that have increased the profile and attractiveness of the Parkes Shire as a visitor destination.
“Our quality visitor information framework and amazing customer service staff at the Parkes Visitor Information Centre elevate the visitor experience for over 26,000 visitors annually encouraging them to stay longer in the region.”
Parkes is up against tough competition with a list of finalist made up of tourism businesses, events, marketing organisations, clubs and individuals all aiming for excellence in their industry.
