It is a jam packed week with singles, doubles and mixed doubles events including strength and conditioning education and US College scholarship presentations as well as racquet stringing demonstrations and equipment stands.
Western Championships
Last week Ben Evans, Harry Dawson, Lachy Tassell, Joseph Tanswell and Gabe Goodrick all travelled to Orange to trial for the Western Open boys tennis team. Jake Magill is out injured and was an automatic selection.
Ben Evans was also in a pool of boys who were simply playing for positions in the team while the other boys had to earn their places.
Harry Dawson and Gabe Goodrick were in the same pool and although Harry defeated Gabe, Harry lost his final pool match and Gabe defeated that player so both boys missed out on a direct place in the team and went into a knockout draw where they were both defeated.
Lachy Tassell was in the team last year but found his opposition tougher this year and didn’t get past the knockout stage.
Joseph Tanswell finished second in his pool and won his knockout match and went into a pool of players for the final place in the nine player team.
Joseph showed his fighting qualities and finished the day with a well deserved final place in the team. Jake(if fit), Ben and Joseph will travel to Inverell next term.
Social Tennis
Saturday afternoons from 1pm there is social tennis at the Club. Finish time is around 4pm but you may come and go as you please.
Holiday Court Hire
Daquinos Bottle Shop in Dalton St is in charge of all court hire.
And while these winter days are delightful it’s a good time to get out with family and friends and get some exercise and enjoy a game of tennis.
