A tribute night has been organised to celebrate the life and music of the late Phil Emmanuel in the Australian guitar legend’s childhood town of Parkes.
Phil passed away in Parkes on May 24 after a sudden asthma attack.
July 7 was especially chosen as the date for the special tribute because it coincided with Phil’s birthday on July 6, where he would have turned 66 years old.
“Phil’s friends and family came together and wanted to do something special,” little brother Darcy Emmanuel said.
“We timed it especially around his birthday.”
The event will take place upstairs at the Parkes Services Club at 6pm.
The community of Parkes is being invited to “rock on” with Phil’s friends.
The night will feature the local talent of Michael Green, accompanied by Greg Hush, Peter Hannelly and Neville McHatton.
And special guest band for the evening will be Black Fortune from west Wyalong, who had the pleasure of jamming with Phil in 2017.
Darcy said a number of people were travelling a long way for the tribute, many of them friends of Phil who wanted to show their support.
People are expected to be travelling from Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast, Melbourne and around NSW.
“These fellow musicians just want to show their respects,” he said.
“And these blokes are all doing this for free.
“This will be our first attempt at something like this for Phil, I’d like to make it an annual event.”
Tickets are $10 and proceeds will be going to Legacy.
“It’s a tribute to Phil and to Parkes,” Darcy said.
“If we can have a real good night so we can make it an annual event.
“We were going to call it a memorial but to me that sounds final and we want to continue Phil’s legacy.”
