Officers observed a green Holden Commodore utility driving at excessive speed on Clarinda Street at 10.30pm.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver accelerated away.
The driver was pursued through Harwood, Farrer and Mitchell Streets before turning on to the Newell Highway.
Police were ultimately forced to abandon the chase.

A 30-year-old Parkes woman had her licence suspended for 24 hours after testing positive for drugs on Sunday morning.
Police stopped the woman in Hartigan Avenue at 2.20am.
She was given a roadside breath test which returned a negative result, however a roadside drug test returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
The woman was arrested and taken to Parkes Police Station where a Drager test also returned a positive result for methamphetamine.
Police will await results of further analysis before any action is taken.

A 19-year-old Parkes man will face court after he was found driving over the limit on Saturday morning.
Police stopped the driver of a Mitsubishi Triton in Bogan Street at 3.55am.
He failed a roadside breath test, was arrested and taken to Parkes Police Station for a breath analysis which returned a reading of 0.018.
He was charged with drive with novice range PCA.

A spanner set was stolen from Supercheap Auto on Thursday afternoon.
Staff noticed an unknown male acting oddly in the store.
CCTV footage revealed the man put the spanner set, along with a sticker, up his jumper and walked out of the store.
The spanner set is valued at $92 and the sticker $5.

A mans wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle in a car park in Welcome Street on Thursday afternoon.
The wallet contained cards and $200 in cash.
