TAFE NSW Senior Manager of Aboriginal Engagement, Rod Towney, said TAFE NSW employees met simultaneously via video technology at more than 35 locations in Western NSW for a morning tea to acknowledge this important occasion.

“As one of the largest trainers of Aboriginal students and employer of Aboriginal peoples in the state, it was vitally important that TAFE NSW employees stopped to reflect on what National Reconciliation Week really stands for,” Mr Towney, a proud Wiradjuri man, said.

“It was a great opportunity for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal staff to get together, to not only celebrate TAFE NSW’s commitment to improving education and employment opportunities for Aboriginal peoples, but to share stories of land, people and culture.”

TAFE NSW Regional General Manager Kate Baxter said the celebrations included not only a morning tea, but cultural music, dancing and special speeches and presentations from Aboriginal Elders.

National Reconciliation Week this year had a theme of ‘Don’t Keep History a Mystery: Learn. Share. Grow’  exploring history hidden just beneath the surface, ready and waiting to be uncovered. 

The campaign highlighted some of the lesser known aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, histories, cultures, and achievements
