Veteran’s Golf
Forth-nine aged golfers travelled to the Grenfell Country Club for the continuation of the Lachlan Valley 18 Holes Veteran Competition and the Coles/Miller Shield last Thursday. The Grenfell Country Club is unique for its rustic beauty, with its slopping fairways and concealed hazards. The game was contested in three grades. The overall A grade winner was a local lad, Allen Jones, who pared the course with a magnificent score of 46 points. The runner-up was also from Grenfell, David Hancock, with 35 points. The B Grade winner was Alan Logan with Peter Mawhinney, both from Grenfell.
Local knowledge certainly helps. John Dwyer from Parkes took home the C grade prize, from the old Forbes stalwart, John Whatmore. Nearest the pins were taken out by Graham Cooke (Pks) and Alan Jones. The Coles/Miller points were easily won by Grenfell on 117 points, with Parkes, second Parkes on 98, followed by Forbes on 96. This week we return to Forbes to resume the contest for the Mick Miller Shield.
