The Holy Family Primary School student received the exciting news he’d been selected for the NSW team last week.
His selection follows gold medal performances in the 50m Multi-Class backstroke, first at the NSW Catholic Primary School Sports Council Swimming Championships in March and then the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships in April.
“I started crying as soon as I heard,” Matty said.
Matty will head to Hobart to compete at the School Sport Australia Swimming Championships from July 25-31 at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre.
He’ll not only be swimming his main event, but he’s also been entered into the 100m backstroke and 100m and 50m butterfly.
And Matty will be swimming the backstroke leg of the medley relay in his age group.
“I like the medals [and] I love being in the water,” Matty said when asked what he loved about swimming.
