Bridge
On Sunday April 15 we took part in the annual Parkes/Forbes/Condobolin Bridge Challenge at Bogan Gate and it was a most successful day with our Parkes team winning the trophy. Two sessions were held and there were fourteen teams playing. David Reddel from Orange was the director for the day.

In the morning the NS winners were Bill and Vicki Burke 59.08 per cent, Elizabeth Jelbart and Louise Payne (Forbes) 55.71, Alpana Mahagaonkar and Peter Macphillamy (Forbes) 53.94. For EW Rosemary Morris and Beryl Twardy topped with 59.16 followed by Dawn Phipps and Jennifer Calvert 58.2 and Judy Patton and Sue Thomas (Condobolin) were third with 58.2. The first six placegetters on each side scored points for their club.
The afternoon session again saw Bill and Vicki Burke winning for NS with 58.1. Helen McQuie and Keith Fiedler were second 57.14 followed by Forbes pair John Biggs and Geoff Coles 54.63. Rosemary Morris and Beryl Twardy won the EW game once more with 59.13. They beat the West Wyalong girls Gai Hudson and Marie Jolly who play for the Forbes Club. Their score was 58.93. In third spot were Greig Ball and Gary Somers 56.94. The all round club totals were Parkes 79 points, Forbes 58 and Condobolin 34.
Once again the day was ably catered for by the Bogan Gate CWA ladies and we enjoyed delicious morning and afternoon tea and lunch. Thank you. Bill and Vicki's daughter Alex did a photo shoot of the day. She puts together mini films for a television company and had previously filmed our card playing train trip to Broken Hill a few years ago.
Monday 16 April results were Bill Burke and Barbara Hughes 60.71, Gary Somers and Greig Ball 59.52 and Keith Fiedler and Kevin Robinson 58.33. In fourth, Rosemary Morris and Beryl Twardy 55.95. Tuesday's results were Warren Blatch and Val Worthington first with a high score of 66.67. Beth Symington and Joan Reilly scored 54.17 and Greig Ball and Laurie Keane 53.12.
Railway Bowling
Pennants last weekend saw two games at home and one game at Forbes. This was the last game for the District Pennants for this year. Firstly the No. Fours were at home to Forbes where Lee Hetherington's team were leading by two shots on the last end only to go down three shots and lost the game 17 to 18, Luke Ramsay's team had a close game also winning three of the last four ends to go down narrowly 19 to 22 and lastly Flippy Fliedner's team trailed narrowly all the way to go down 16 to 22. This gave Forbes a ten point win overall.
The fives were at home to Narromine where Col Boehm's team were behind most of the way and came home with a wet sail to just miss out losing 15 to 17, Ben McNaughton's team led most of the way and got behind on the 19th end but picked up five shots on the last two ends to win 22 to 20 and Mike Phillips team trailed all the way to go down 36 to ten. This gave Narromine a nine points to one win overall.
The sevens travelled to Forbes and Kevin Wales team had a big win 26 to ten, Kevy Hynd's team (previously undefeated) never got in to the game to go down 11 to 25 and Mike Parkes team lost 19 to 26 after fighting back to be level after 10 ends but couldn't keep up the momentum. Forbes coming out winners nine points to one and winning the master board by 61 to 56. All grades missed out on going any further but can be assured they played their best and did the club proud. Wednesday winners were Jason Gosper and Steve Clegg. Runners up Les Carpenter Terry Clothier and Col Horner, Stefan’s free haircut won by Les Carpenter.
Women’s Bowling
The second Round of Club Championship Pairs were played today with Rhona Went, Liz Byrne def Gwenda Carty, Cherie Frame. Margaret Hawken, Audrey Jones defeated Kim Evans, Elaine Miller. In the next Round to be played next week, Rhona Went, Liz Byrne v Margaret Hawken, Audrey Jones. In other games played, Di Howell, Merilyn Rodgers, Flo Riseborough defeated Maureen Miller, Hilda McPherson, Minnie Riordan. Eileen Bradley, Frances Charlton, Robyn Morgan defeated Isabel Svendsen, Rosemary Mitchell, Maureen Baillee.
Winners on the day were Eileen, Frances and Robyn. Runners up were Maureen, Hilda and Minnie. The CWD Pairs and Senior Pairs will be played at our club May 7-9. Workers are needed to help with catering etc. Nominations are open for CWD Triples, Fours and Senior Fours so get your entries in please. Our Trading Table was very successful, our magical Mother’s Day Raffle was won by Liz Byrne. At the next Trading Table on May 22 we will be holding A Big Morning Tea. All monies raised are donated to Cancer research. To play social bowls please ring Table Selectors Eileen Bradley and Minnie Riordan between 9am and 9.30 am. Social roster Audrey Jones.

Chirstine shows the men how! Sunday, April 15 the Parkes Services Social Golfers played a Stableford Event for the Rodney Luyt Trophy and the Raffle supplied by Michael Smith. A bid day was had by Chris Stait taking out the event with 42 Points & snaring the Nearest the Pins on the fourth and 11th Holes. Runner up was Tom Delmenico with a score of 36 Points. Men's Nearest the Pins fourth Ian Phipps and 11th Dale Stait. Raffle Winner was Phil Smith with Golf Balls going to Len Archer and Richard Wells. Lucky Card Draw went to Len Archer. Bunny Award received by Dale Stait.
Great Round Chris but I think Captain Chop may have a lot to say when he returns about your Handicap. Next Event we play a Team Event for the Kap Palenapa-Pili & Matt Wright Trophies with Tom Delmenico supplying the Raffle. Parkes SSAA Smallbore
Last weekend we saw six shooters attend the Deep Lead shooting complex. They shot at crow targets at both 25 and 50 meters for a maximum of 530 points. This match was shot under strong westerly winds which caught out all at the 50 meter range.

Major Mitchell shot the true lie down Smallbore for practice only. Next shoot, 10am, Sunday, April 22. Ordinary targets at both ranges. Shooters should mark the following dates down, Friday, April 27 at 5pm to talk to Phil Donato MP out at the Parkes Gun club with a shoot and BBQ. Sunday, May 27 we will be holding a combined working nee along with members of the Pistol Club out at the Pistol Club grounds.
Parkes SSAA Sporting Clays
At last months shoot six shooters attended the Deep Lead shooting coplete and shot in a 80 target day with two events.
Event One: Sixty targets known rise using six auto clay throwers. Brian Drabsch 57, Brian Rickaby 53, David Wilson and David Tanks 51 each, Brett Dean 47 and Bernie Cusack 44.
Event Two: Twenty target twin rise with one outwards and one inwards. Brian Drabsch 20, David Wilson 19, David Tanks 18, Brett Dean 17, Bernie Cusack 16, Brian Rickaby 15.
Next shoot, 1pm Saturday, April 21 with targets similar to above.
