The Central Coast based saber academy is coming to Forbes Youth and Community Centre this weekend, to run workshops as part of the Youth Action Team’s Star Wars Day.
Sons of Obiwan’s Luke Boyton says the team is looking forward to coming to Forbes and teaching local kids some of their tricks.
“It’s theatre combat,” he explains.
“We’ll teach them spins, basically help them get their Jedi on. It’s good fun.”
Sons of Obiwan are running workshops for young people aged 10 years and up, but Saturday is open to younger children with Star Wars movie screenings and crafts.
Forbes Youth Action Team members Nick and Charles Zannes can’t wait for the day, but it’s just one of the events planned for Youth Week 2018.
Thursday night is all about trivia with all invited to come on down to the Youth Centre and go head to head with your classmates to test your general knowledge.
Teams are to be made up of four to eight people, $5 per team.
There will be two sessions with a 4pm start for the 11 to 15-year-olds and a 7pm start for the 16 to 25-year-olds. There are prizes to be won.
Youth Week 2018 wraps up with a colour run and community celebration on April 21.
It’ll be a big, family friendly day down at Halpin Flat with music and activities from midday.
All community members welcome on the day, which will start with the Youth Week awards, an annual celebration of the achievements and contributions of our shire’s young people.
The colour run will follow for those aged 12-25, there’s a $10 registration fee which includes a t-shirt.
You can register on the day but please note under 18s need parental permission, so you need to pick up a form and have it signed in advance or bring a parent along on the day to sign you up.
Students can sign up at Forbes High or Red Bend, or you can register at Forbes Shire Council’s offices.
