The award was in recognition of Parkes Hockey’s hosting of the inaugural Kookaburra 8’s U11 Carnival held in Parkes on April 22 and 23 April, 2017.
Kookaburra 8’s is a carnival for Under 11s, playing half field games with the new Joey Ball.
Thirteen teams from around the region came to Parkes to take part in the inaugural event.
The 13 teams came from Parkes, Molong, Orange and Dubbo.
The weekend consisted of games and skills sessions, mentoring sessions as well as a visit from retired Hockeyroo Jade Warrender (Georgiou) as well as a Coach the Coach Seminar, presented by RCC Kate Pulbrook for over 25 coaches.
Hockey NSW introduced four new community awards for 2017 designed to encourage, acknowledge and recognise the outstanding contribution and achievements of volunteers from the local hockey communities across the state.
Parkes Hockey Inc were represented by Cherie and Glenn Johnstone (Junior Directors), Mandy Westcott (Women's Director) and Ian Westcott (T2 Project Manager) who were extremely thrilled to accept the award on behalf of PHI and it's many wonderful volunteers.
Due to the success of the 2017 Kookaburra 8's carnival, Parkes Hockey Inc are again hosting the carnival in 2018.
This year's carnival will be held on April 28 and 29 and is already shaping up to be bigger and better than last year.
