He actually started eyeing off his second Mustang, the white fastback in the photo, even before he'd bought his first one!
John was in the US checking out a '66 Mustang, which he ended up buying, when he spotted the white car.
"It was part of a private collection in Texas when I saw it in 2007,” he said.
“I said to the owner to let me know if ever it was for sale and sure enough I got a phone call in 2010 that I just couldn't resist.”
The car in question is a 1967 Ford Mustang GT Fastback with a 390 cubic inch V8 engine powering a four speed manual gearbox.
The automatics were branded a GTA. It rolls on 14 inch sports wheels and the original Wimbledon White duco has been freshened up with a re-paint at some stage but the original blue interior remains unrestored and in very good condition.
"The GT was the top of the line model" John said , "so it has a few luxury features most appreciative of all is the factory air conditioning".
In 2017 John started thinking about the newly released 6th generation Mustang and realised that he just couldn't help himself. The deciding factor was that he could own two Mustang GT's 50 years apart and the blue reminded him of his first ever Falcon back in the 1970s.
So the second car in the photo with John is his 2017 Ford Mustang GT Fastback finished in Lightning Blue.
"The new Mustang has even more sting than the '67,"John said "but you just can't beat the raw grunt of 390 cubes in the '67".
The 2017 has a 5.0 litre V8 running through a six speed manual gearbox on 19 inch rims. Once again its a GT with all the creature comforts we expect now in a modern car and its trimmed in black leather.
I forgot to ask John which car he prefers to drive, but with a pair of GT Mustangs 50 years apart you can rest assured the decision wouldn't be easy.
The new Mustang has even more sting than the '67 but you just can't beat the raw grunt of 390 cubes in the '67.
