After losing the key wicket of Joe Van Opynen, Pythons players Grant Gaut and Frazer Todd batted with plenty of determination and good shots to have Pythons heading for victory.
Adam Ashford, Ryan Smith and Zac Hodges played shorter but valuable innings to keep their team in the game. Nathan Munday however proved to be the stumbling block as he produced the outstanding figures of 4/4 to bring victory to Reedy Gold.
Parkes retain Grinsted Cup
At Woodward Oval: Parkes 6/340 off 50 overs (Jacob Harvey 80, Peter Yelland 79, Zac Bayliss 56, Anthony Heraghty 42, Myles Smith 32, Steve Walker 2/39 off 3 & Charlie Mitton 1/29 off 7) defeated Grenfell 9/37 off 13 overs (Brent Tucker 3/9 off 5, Jonah Ruzgas 3/16 off 5, Jack Barker 2/3 off 2 & Adam Parker 1/6 off 1). Parkes won by 303 runs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat Parkes openers Anthony Heraghty and Peter Yelland had to ward off some lively bowling from Grenfell's Zac Starr. With hot conditions prevailing the Grenfell bowlers began to tire as Heraghty and Yelland began to play a series of stylish strokes.
The introduction of Zac Bayliss to the crease saw Zac play plenty of powerfully struck shots on his way to scoring 56 before he fell to a smart catch at mid-wicket. Peter Yelland highlighted his fine innings of 79 by smashing a big six however it was the power play of Jacob Harvey who scored 80 runs in less than an hour with some massive sixes that really boasted the Parkes score. Myles Smith, Mitch Cambourn and Anthony Riach all played a series of aggressive strokes to score rapid runs at the end of the Parkes innings.
At no stage did the Grenfell team stop trying as they did their best to stem the flow of runs. In reply Brent Tucker (3/9 off 5) and the rapidly improving Jonah Ruzgas (3/16 off 5) crushed through the Grenfell batting line-up, before Jack Barker (2/3) and Adam Parker (1/6) mopped up the tail end batting to give Parkes a huge victory. Parkes are now scheduled to play Young in Parkes on Sunday to defend the Grinsted Cup.
