The Parkes Gun Club held their 11th Toby Hawke Memorial Shoot on August 12 last year, with seven squads of shooters taking to the tracks.
It’s the most competitors the gun club has had in nine years.
As a result, shooters were able to raise a massive $1000 donation to Parkes Can Assist, which will go towards helping local cancer patients.
The funds were given to Adele Hawke – wife of the late Toby Hawke, who was very involved with the Parkes Gun Club. Adele was personally present at the memorial shoot to accept the money.
Adele then presented the money to Parkes Can Assist’s vice president Zelma Fisher and Can Assist secretary Pat Bailey just before Christmas.
Toby Hawke passed away from cancer on March 17, 2005 and Parkes Can Assist played a big role in supporting him financially.
“Can Assist used to pay for Toby’s tablets from the pharmacy,” Adele said.
Pat said the money will go towards, as most monetary donations do, to the general helping of patients, including payment for medications and travel.
“We’d like to thank the Parkes Gun Club for continuing the running of the shoot. It’s been going for [11 years and] it’s helping people in the Parkes Shire,” Pat said.
“All of the money raised in Parkes stays in Parkes, not one cent goes to administration in Sydney.”
