As in previous years, the Australian Art Exhibition will kick off the shire’s activities on Australia Day eve on Thursday, January 25.
The official opening takes place at 7pm at the Coventry Room.
The exhibition will feature art from local students and artists.
Cost is $15 per person at the door, which includes supper and wine tasting by D'Aquinos.
The shire’s first event on Australia Day, Friday, January 26 will be the 7am walk from Cooke Park, followed by a free breakfast at Cooke Park.
The day’s program continues as follows:
8am-11am – Over the hill, kites of all sizes and shapes including a giant whale, will be flying high at Northparkes Oval.
10am – All Australian Car Display at Cooke Park.
10.30am – Live entertainment by the Parkes Shire Band at Cooke Park.
11am – Official ceremony at Cooke Park, including the presentation of Community Awards and Citizen of the Year, and an address by Ambassador Ann Snell.
2pm-6pm – Make a splash at the Parkes Aquatic Centre with free entry from 2pm-6pm.
7pm – Enjoy the setting sun with harness racing at the Parkes Showground and the infamous annual golden yabby race!
AUSTRALIA DAY IN BOGAN GATE
8am – Official ceremony at Park including welcome and flag raising.
8.30am – Make your way to the Memorial Hall for a cooked breakfast, competition and prizes!
10am – Presentation from Ambassador Ann Snell and morning tea.
AUSTRALIA DAY IN PEAK HILL
7.30am – Community breakfast at Peak Hill Memorial Park.
8.30am – Official ceremony including Welcome to Country, prayer, official welcome, flag raising and National Anthem, presentation of Australia Day Awards, cutting of the cake, best outfit/colouring-in competition, free entry to pool from 2pm and sausage sizzle at 6pm.
AUSTRALIA DAY IN TULLAMORE
8am – Community barbecue breakfast at Tullamore Pool.
8.15am-9am – Ambassador Ann Snell visits the Tullamore Pool.
2pm-6pm – Make a splash at Tullamore Pool with free entry from 2pm-6pm.
AUSTRALIA DAY IN TRUNDLE
7.30am – Community breakfast at Berryman Oval.
9am – Official ceremony including flag-raising, presentation of Citizen and Sporting Awards, and presentations made by Bush Tucker Day Committee.
2pm-6pm – Make a splash a Trundle Pool with free entry from 2pm-6pm.
