The QBR – during which Parkes’ local legends will carry the baton – will begin its journey in Parkes at Memorial Hill at 4.30pm on January 29.

The baton will travel down Bushman Street, into Albert Street, Victoria Street and the northern end of High Street before making its way down Wentworth Street and Currajong Street, and through Parkes’ CBD.

Baton bearers will circle Cooke Park before heading past the Parkes Shire Council Chambers in Cecile Street, down a section of Bogan Street and into Dalton Street.

The QBR will finish the day with a splash at the Parkes Aquatic Centre, where the community celebrations will officially kick off at 5.30pm.

And Parkes Shire residents and visitors have been invited to join the celebrations in their entirety.

Parkes Shire Council General Manager, Kent Boyd, is encouraging the community to join in the fun, be part of the exciting occasion and support our local baton bearers.

“There are a number of fantastic vantage points along the route where you can cheer on the local legends carrying the baton,” he said.

“Parkes is one of only eight overnight stops in NSW along the QBR route, and we are delighted to showcase our region’s history, culture, traditions and vibrant community to the world.”

As part of the community celebrations, the Parkes Aquatic Centre will host a family friendly pool party, with free entry from 4pm until 7pm, outdoor games, and live acoustic entertainment.

The Pool Kiosk will be stocked with cold drinks and icy poles, with Rotary and Quota serving up a barbecue.

The QBR will resume its journey at 7.45am on Tuesday, January 30, making its way onto Orange.
