Presentation Night: The major Award of 2017 Bowler of the Year went to Col Hayward in recognition of his consistent performances throughout the year including the Club Championships and also for his contribution as part of the No. 2 Pennants'.Teani: which made it through to the State Finals. Col also represented the Club with some success at various District and Zone Championships as well as a number of Tournaments throughout the local area. - Handicap Pairs – Bernie Mitchell and George Boatswain. Runners up were Bob Freeman and Col Hayward.
A well-deserved recipient of The Clubman of the Year Award was John Hodge, not only in recognition of his performances on the Green but also because of the time and effort he puts in preparing the greens and looking after the gardens of the Club. Many thanks to all those involved in organising the night and especially Graham Barby, Wilbur Harris and John Watson.
Club Championships: In the Major Triples Final, Mark Dwyer, Mike Went and Peter McPhee led for the first fourteen ends. On the fifteenth end that Tom Furey, Dave Johnson and Gary McPhee levelled the scores14 all. Tom's team then went on to win seven of the remaining ends to win the match 26-19 and claim the 2017 championship. The Mixed Pairs Final between Rhona and Mike Went and Cherie Frame, Beter McPhee. Rhona and Mike winners 20-16. Early in the week, Col Hayward and Bob Freeman took on Mark Dwyer and Peter McPhee in a Semi Final of the Handicap Pairs. Col and Bob led 9-8 after five ends. The sixth end was won by Mark and Peter to give them the lead, 12-9 but after eight ends Col and Bob had regained the lead. The second last end Mark and Peter were able to draw level at 25 all. On the last end Mark and Peter were holding shots before Col took the jack into the ditch and his bowl came to rest in the ditch only millimetres away from the jack to win the end and move into the Final. In the Final Col and Bob played George Boatswain and Bernie Mitchell. With one end to play the scores was 18 all. George and Bernie scored the shot on the last end to win the Championship for 2017. The next day George Boatswain was again on the green playing Greg Howlett in the Handicap Singles Final. After twenty-nine ends Greg had the upper hand 21-18 but George won the next three ends to claim the Championship with a 26-21 win.
- Social Bowls December 7: S.Ryan, J.Watson, G.Bradley defeated L.Kent, R.Irving, B.Skinner 20-16. K.MacRae, B.Deland, G.Dickson defeated A.Corbett, J.Carr, G.Huggins 20- 12. G.Freeman, G.Ellery and J.Blake defeated W.Bevan, G.Barby and J.Dunn 24-11. December 9: S.Turner, C.Dunn defeated B.Orr, J.Watson 22-21. A.Corbett, G.Carty defeated G.Barby, R.Went 20-12. G.Freeman, J.Hodge defeated C.Hayward, T.Wright 25-10. R.Hornery, G.Dixon defeated R.Jones, G.Sun 23-16.
- Twilight Bowls: Fifty six players turning out to play nine games of Triples. Been N End scored five shots on the second last end to help them to a 15-14 against High Rollers. Happy Wanderers just held on to beat Parkes GP 13-11. Born Bowlers proved too strong for the 1300 Bugman, 14-9. Hard Rock Rollers were just too good for Toyota Turles 13-8. Pink returned to the winning list with a win over Three Amigos 19-10. Other winners were, We Wreck ‘em N’ We Fix ‘me, Central West Glass, Casey Surveying and Bowl Bros.
Railway Women’s Bowling
Wednesday, December 13 will be Christmas lunch and presentation day all members who have won or being runner up in club events should be present.
Veteran Golf
The Parkes and Forbes Veteran Golfers played the final round, contesting the Mick Miller Shield, at Forbes last Thursday. The winners of the 4BBB were S. Uphill and J. Haley (Fbs) on 74 points with the eighty-eight-year-old, T. Edols and P. Barnes (also Fbs) on 72. B. Shine (Fbs) was the individual winner on a count back from B. Parker (Fbs), both on 37 points.
Nearest the pins were D. Stait, G. Cooke, L. Wakefield and R. Sanderson. The Stableford winner for 2017 was M. Cartwright (Fbs) on 624 points with P. Barnes (Fbs) runner-up on 607. The points winner was D. Stait (Pks) on 113 from A. Davies on 107. The Mick Miller Shield was taken out by Forbes on 4653 from Parkes on 4520. We will meet this week at Parkes on Thursday, with a 10am start.
